Maternity Leave

Maternity leave is paid time off around childbirth. In the UAE private sector a female employee is entitled to 60 calendar days, 45 at full pay and 15 at half pay, from the first day of employment with no minimum service. Both parents also get five working days of parental leave, and government and emirate rules can be more generous.

The entitlement applies from day one, so a recent hire is still covered. After returning, mothers are entitled to paid nursing breaks for a period, and extra leave applies if the child is ill or has a disability. Entitlements differ between the private and government sectors and across Gulf countries, and they are being reviewed, so verify current provisions with the relevant labour authority.
