Sick Leave

Sick leave is paid or partially paid time off for illness. In the UAE private sector an employee is entitled to up to 90 days a year after probation, structured as the first 15 days at full pay, the next 30 at half pay, and the remainder unpaid. A medical report is normally required.

The tiered structure matters if you face a longer illness, because pay steps down as the days accumulate. Sick leave usually cannot be taken on full terms during probation, and unjustified absence can be treated very differently, closer to an absconding risk, so follow the reporting rules. Entitlements vary across the Gulf and change over time, so confirm current provisions with the relevant labour authority. How your status and rights read on a UAE CV: UAE CV format guide.
