Reference Check

A reference check is the stage where an employer contacts your former managers or HR to confirm your role, dates, and performance, usually near the offer. In the Gulf it often runs alongside document and visa verification. Line up referees who know your work and tell them in advance so they are prepared.

Choose referees who managed you closely and can speak to specific results, not just senior names who barely knew you. Always ask first, and give them the role you are targeting so they can tailor what they say. Expect the employer to verify your titles and dates against your experience certificate, so make sure your CV, certificate, and referees all tell the same story.
