Fixed-Term Contract

A fixed-term contract runs for a defined period rather than indefinitely. Since February 2022 the UAE has made fixed-term contracts the only type in the private sector, abolishing unlimited contracts. The original three-year cap was removed, so any agreed duration is allowed, and contracts can be renewed by agreement.

For a jobseeker, the practical points are simple. Your contract states a term and can be renewed by agreement; ending it early has consequences set by the contract and the law, which feed into your notice period and end-of-service gratuity. Read the term, the renewal wording, and any early-exit clause before you sign. Rules evolve, so verify current provisions with MOHRE. How notice and availability read on a UAE CV: UAE CV format guide.
