Competency Interview

A competency or behavioural interview assesses how you have handled real situations, on the theory that past behaviour predicts future performance. Questions start with tell me about a time you, targeting skills like leadership, conflict, or problem-solving. Structured answers with concrete examples, ideally using the STAR method, are what score well.

Prepare specific stories in advance, one or two per common competency, and practise telling them in the STAR structure: situation, task, action, result. Focus on your own actions and quantify the outcome. Avoid hypothetical or generic answers; interviewers are scoring for evidence, not intentions. This format is common in Gulf corporate and graduate hiring. How to structure winning answers: expected salary and interview guide.
