Arbitrary Dismissal

Arbitrary or unlawful dismissal is termination for an illegitimate reason, such as firing a worker for filing a valid complaint against the employer. In the UAE it can entitle the worker to compensation on top of normal end-of-service dues, currently capped at three months' total salary and decided through MOHRE and the courts.

This matters when a job ends badly. Not every termination is arbitrary; an employer can dismiss for valid reasons with due process, but a retaliatory or bad-faith firing is treated differently and may carry compensation. Keep records, act within the complaint deadline, and get advice before signing anything on the way out. Rules and caps change, so verify the current position with MOHRE or a qualified adviser.
