Relocation Allowance

A relocation allowance is a one-time payment or reimbursement an employer provides to cover the cost of moving for a job: flights, shipping, temporary accommodation, and settling-in expenses. Common in Gulf packages for overseas hires, it is separate from the recurring housing allowance and is often negotiable, especially for senior or hard-to-fill roles.

Before you accept, ask exactly what relocation covers: one-way or return flights, shipping or a fixed sum, hotel nights on arrival, and visa or attestation costs. Get it in writing, because a vague promise is easy to shrink later. Keep it distinct from your monthly housing allowance, which is recurring; relocation is a one-off.
