Overtime

Overtime is extra pay for hours worked beyond your normal schedule. In the UAE private sector overtime is generally capped at two extra hours a day, paid at 125 percent of your basic hourly wage, rising to 150 percent for work on rest days and public holidays. It is calculated on basic salary, not the full package.

Know whether your role is eligible, since some senior and managerial positions are excluded from overtime rules. Because the rate is based on basic salary, a package weighted toward allowances yields lower overtime than the headline number suggests, another reason the base-versus-package split matters. Rates and exemptions change, so verify current rules with the relevant labour authority. How base and allowances shape your pay: Gulf salary package guide.
