Annual Increment

An annual increment is the yearly raise applied to your salary, whether a fixed step, a percentage, or a merit-based increase tied to performance. In the Gulf increments are not guaranteed by law and vary widely by employer and sector, so it is worth asking about the typical raise history before you join.

Because there is no legal minimum raise, your increment depends on company policy and your performance review, and in some years employers freeze increments entirely. When negotiating, a modest starting offer with a strong, documented increment culture can beat a higher start with none. Ask how increments are decided and what recent years looked like.
