Payment in Lieu of Notice
Payment in lieu of notice is money paid instead of working the notice period, so employment ends immediately. Either side can trigger it: an employer can pay you out rather than have you serve notice, or you may owe it if you leave without serving yours. It is usually calculated on the contractual notice pay.
